Project Overview

Goal: Develop a self-learning guide for Lidl to create engaging and interactive learning experiences that enhance employee competency development.

Challenge: Lidl needed an interactive learning guide for competency development that employees could access anytime. They wanted the guide in a PDF format for easy distribution.

My role: Led the project, selected the learning content, and ensured it was interactive and engaging, tailored to different learning styles.

how the COMPETENCY dEVELOPMENT LEARNING GUIDE worked

Step 1: VARK Questionnaire

1. Questionnaire Introduction

Participants began by completing the VARK questionnaire to determine their learning style.

2. Clickable Questionnaire Link

The guide included a clickable option that redirected participants to the VARK questionnaire.

3. Personalized Learning Guidance

Based on the questionnaire results, participants received insights into their strongest learning preference, guiding them on which mediums of the guide to focus on for an optimized learning experience.

Step 2: Learning the Competency

1. Access Resources

Participants accessed resources tailored to their learning style (Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing, Kinesthetic) clickable sections.

2. Select Recommended Resources

Based on their VARK results, participants selected the recommended resources. For example, for the competency on “Achieving Optimal Performance” (Επίτευξη Βέλτιστης Απόδοσης), as seen on the right, a visual learner would pick the blue section of the guide, which always referred to visual learner resources.

3. Guided Learning

The guide ensured participants could easily find and use the most suitable resources. The guide used consistent color coding to make it easy for learners to consistently find their preferred resources:

- red for read-write learners

- navy/dark blue for kinesthetic learners

-blue for visual learners

-yellow for auditory learners

Analysis

  • Conducted surveys and interviews to understand learner preferences of Lidl employees.

  • Analyzed existing resources to identify gaps.

Design

  • Outlined the structural flow of the guide for each competency to present to the client for approval.

  • Designed and piloted the flow for one competency as a template, ensuring it met client expectations.

  • Incorporated interactive elements tailored to each learner’s needs, based on the VARK model.

Development

  • Developed content using appropriate tools (e.g., Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator, Powerpoint).

  • Ensured the guide was interactive and compatible with multiple devices.

Implementation

  • Delivered the guide in PDF format as request by the client.

  • Trained LIDL’s internal team on using the guide effectively.

Evaluation

  • Collected feedback from users.

  • Made improvements based on feedback.
